Year 6 - Globe Theatre Trip

To mark the end of the KS2 SATs and to recognise the hard work the children have put into working towards them, on Wednesday Year 6 went on a trip to London.

The class walked over the Millennium Bridge and spent some time sketching the London skyline before being treated to a guided tour of the Globe Theatre, learning some fascinating facts about its history and the work that goes into staging a play in modern times. From a brilliant vantage point, they watched actors rehearsing for their performance of ‘The Crucible' (by Arthur Miller) and then took part in a workshop on Romeo and Juliet. They prepared for the iconic balcony scene, where an unseen Romeo sees Juliet and declares, ‘But soft, what light through yonder window breaks? It is the East, and Juliet is the sun.' Romeo then hears Juliet asking, 'O Romeo, Romeo, wherefore art thou Romeo? Deny thy father and refuse thy name.' Some brilliant acting by the children led to some highly dramatic and entertaining interpretations!

Then the class took to the River Thames for a boat trip that passed many celebrated sights along the riverbank.  The sun was shining and fun was had by all thanks to a very interesting and amusing tour guide. After disembarking at the Tower of London, where they enjoyed an ice-cream, the group climbed onboard for their second boat journey, to the London Eye, where their coach was waiting to drive them home.

Thank you to Mrs Morrison, Mrs Peacock and Mrs Amani for all the work that went into organising and arranging the day, as well as supervising and navigating the children safely around London. It was a wonderful day that we hope the children will remember for a long time to come.
