Oak Class
Oak Class is our mixed Year 1 and 2 class.
Our Year 1 children build on the skills they have begun to develop in the Early Years Foundation Stage. Through a careful period of transition, they have opportunities to learn in a similar way to Reception early on in the academic year and then gradually, as the children are ready, they begin to access the National Curriculum in an increasingly structured way.
Our Year 2 children continue to develop their skills and knowledge across the curriculum.
As part of our English curriculum, the children will have daily phonics lessons where they will continue to follow the Monster Phonics programme. Reading is a key area of the curriculum and this is supported by guided reading and 1:1 reading homework. Children will have banded books to take home and read, which follow the progression of Monster Phonics. In writing, children will further their knowledge of grammar and punctuation and will be given opportunities to apply this independently across a broad range of different genres.
During our maths lessons we use a wide range of resources to help us explain our understanding of the mathematical concepts we are learning about.
